PJCA’s overarching design concept sprung from the desire to create a seamless flow and loft-like experience within the home. Challenged to fit an ambitious program into a limited footprint while maximizing storage, the design team developed a central core structure to serve as an anchor for the surrounding open spaces. Clad in a warm brown wood veneer, the structure offers space for hidden storage throughout the entire home, leaving the outer areas free to maximize views of the city. Where the home’s original standard layout was compartmentalized and closed-off, the new floor plan enables effortless movement and visual continuity between spaces.
On the 20th floor of an iconic Manhattan high rise on East 9th Street, PJCA transformed a 1,200 square-foot residence into a forever home for a high-powered, design-loving couple. Local politician and a law firm COO sought to create a tailored refuge that would enable them to recoup from their fast-paced work life and entertain guests. Reorganizing the home’s existing interior flow, the design team developed a warm and relaxing abode that fits the clients’ lifestyle while enhancing connectivity to the stunning surrounding views.
